I'll be in Naples Dec 10-17th, staying near Clam Pass. Am looking for tips on fishing this area from shore--lures/bait to use (for a spinning rig), tidal strategies, species to target this time of year. I will also have canoe access to the Clam bays themselves. Any advice greatly appreciated!
Cheers!
Mike
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the post. Clam pass can be fun. Try the upper bays for baby tarpon. As is many times the case, early am can be good. Coming off the new moon Dec. 9 you'll have very low tides in the mornings which can be good as it brings the fish out of the mangroves and condenses them. It's very low the first few days of your trip and may be too low.
I love top water plugs especially the Bagleys Jumpin mullet in silver/black. Also jigs and live bait (shiners or shrimp). For flies the EP's work well in the mullet pattern in black/white and black/purple and the same colrs in the perfect minnow pattern.
Stop in when your in town and maybe we can offer additional tips.
