Fishing has been very good the last week although was tough the last two days as it was cooler. This latest cool front was really only our second cold front of the winter.

We've been shark fishing some the last four weeks. Lots of action with a good variety of sharks. Bulls, blacktips and I believe Dusky sharks. The blacktips frequently thrash the surface and put on quite a show. Now that we're figuring them out were going to start fly fishing for them.

The mid day to afternoon low tides we're having this week should make for some good sight fishing plus the afternon sun will warm the shallows and should draw the snook in. The swamp rabbit has been the hot fly lately.

My kids Emma & Dylan with Mr. Bull shark. He was released and swam away happy.

Hey Mark, I almost exclusively fly fish when I'm down there, but when I'm down there in March I'll have some friends that just want to go out and tug on some fish with conventional tackel. None of them have ever seen a shark up close. It would be a hoot to get them hooked into some just to let them pull on them and see what this saltwater thing is all about. Any spots somehwhat close to Goodland's Walker Coon Key Marina (where I keep my boat) that you'd reccommend I try?
Thanks in advance!!

Hey Stoli, I like to fish in the channels north east of Cape Romano and north of the sandbar which is east of Cape Romano so...from Cape R travel to the north side of the sandbar (out about 1/4 mile) and then head north north east and look for the PVC pipes. These mark the edge of the channels. I anchor in about 4' of water. This allows me to catch jacks and ladyfish in the shallows, using spoons or jigs, which I use for bait and to replenish the chum bag. I use 40lb wire with the bait on the bottom with no weight. I let the sharks take the bait for a few seconds so he gets it and I use circle hooks. Typically Bulls and Black Tips.
Good luck
Thanks
