The weather has finally stabilized a little bit and the winds getting lighter. The water around Goodland has been very dirty making sight fishing on Fly very difficult. The best bet on fly right now is Snook. Dark flies in the dirty water have been producing good results averaging 6-10 Snook a morning. The average sizes of the Snook have been 20-30 inches.
The laid up Tarpon fishing has been slow due to the high winds last week that created some very dirty water. Now that the winds have switched back coming from the East, the water is starting to clean up bringing back some big migratory Tarpon. Late April, May and June have been the best for me in the past 2 years so I am hoping in the next few weeks the Tarpon on Fly will turn on.
Redfish have been slow but catching a few here and there. The Reds have been all in the slot. (18-27”) Rootbeer colored shrimp tail jigs have been the best for me
Bait has been washing up on the beaches and I have already have caught some Snook on the beach. Look for them cruising at Surfs edge in and out of the first trough. Small white flies stripped away from the fish will get a bite.
The fishing is getting better by the day and approaching the best of the year
I suggest getting out and enjoying some of the best fishing Florida has to offer
