Hey all,
I'm coming down from Maine next week with the gf to stay in Naples. I plan on going on some early morning fish bum sessions. Could anyone give me some ideas of some spots to hit and what tides? I'll be primarily wading and would love to hit some flats or estuaries. I already plan on fishing clam pass and was wondering the tides there, and type of fish I might see there. Anyone who would like to fish with me I'll be there July 16-21. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. |

Hi,
Full moon is on July 18 so you'll have high tides mid-day with strong falling tides in the afternoon. High tides are good for beach snook fishing. The will cruise right next to the sand in the trough that forms. They can be spooky especially if the water is clear so walk up a ways from the water.
The lower water you'll have in the morning and late afternoon will allow for better wading at Clam Pass. Plus the strong tides can also produce a good bite.
Also check out this link for more info:

Many times...but not all the time our snook and reds like to live and feed near shorelines be it mangroves, oyster bars or sand bars so target these areas. Moving water is also important so slack tides the fishing will be slower. The water doesn't necessarily have to moving fast as long as the tide is moving in or out. Here's a link for tides:

Good luck.

Hey there Lazybutt,
I'll be arriving on Sat 19th until the 26th (I know you're gone on the 21st) but you may see me on the shore by the pass at any point during that time.
My folks have had a place in one of those buildings before the hotel for a long time, and the wife and I get down there as much as we can. I'm an addict, and do not plan to stop. It's a snook thing!! I don't even like to fish up here in NY, except for freshwater trout. I primarily spin fish, but I'm working on my fly fishing...
See you out there!!

Just left the area on Wed. & after 4 days of rain (another story) went a little buggy. Got the beach at Naples on Sat AM & fished the bulkheads a little north of Gordans Pass. Caught a dozen jacks to about three pounds about a half hour after high tide. Used a crease fly in pink w/white tail & white w/pink tail, lt. gray over white minnow (1/0) - all successful. Had to leave before thunder boomers. Didn't get an other opportunity for the remainder of the time I was there. Plenty of finicky snook 6 sheephead. From the jetty at Gordan's north to the pier, fish the piliings in the early AM or at dusk. LOOK OUT FOR THE SHELL PICKERS! |
